Dappled Saffron

Dappled Saffron — Limited Edition Fine Art Print

Captured in south-west Wales, Lampeter, April 2026. There are days in nature when the weather writes its own story. Taken on the very same spring day as Black Gold, Dappled Saffron was created during a day that delivered sunshine, rain, sleet and snow in quick succession. Between the passing showers, the sun broke through, illuminating the vibrant yellow broom blossom that swayed in the persistent April wind.

Perched amongst delicate hawthorn blossom, this male Siskin seemed perfectly at home within the shifting palette of spring. His soft saffron-yellow breast echoed the glowing tones of the broom foreground, creating a natural harmony of colour that first drew my eye. Photographing him proved a challenge, as both the slender hawthorn branches and the bird moved together with every gust, dancing to the rhythm of the blustery April day.

After countless fleeting moments, there came a brief pause, a fraction of a second when bird, branch and light aligned. It was enough to freeze the movement and reveal the quiet elegance of this often-overlooked woodland finch, surrounded by blossom and the golden hues of spring. Dappled Saffron is a reminder that nature’s most beautiful moments often emerge from its most unpredictable days, rewarding patience with scenes that last only an instant but remain unforgettable.
