Its distinctive forked tail and graceful flight speak of strength, freedom and complete mastery of the wind.
Yet this image tells a story far greater than flight alone. Once driven to the brink of extinction through persecution, the red kite has returned to Welsh skies through decades of dedication by local farmers, conservationists and the RSPB. Their collaboration has transformed the fortunes of a species that now once again soars across the valleys and hills where it belongs.
Bathed in warm spring light, this moment captures both beauty and resilience. The soft, painterly background allows the kite to emerge with quiet authority, its wings stretched wide as though embracing the very landscape that fought for its survival.
